TASMANIA TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1 – Sydney to Hobart

Salamanca Market is one of Australia’s most vibrant and loved outdoor markets. It’s a new adventure every Saturday at historic Salamanca Place

The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery is a museum located in Hobart, Tasmania.

Day 2 – Hobart to Mt Wellington plus free day (Optional Bruny Island)

Climb a mountain (Mt Wellington by Coach) and view captivating modern art in the same day. Eat fish and chips from a floating fish punt. Add thriving markets, an unsurpassed natural setting and a tangible sense of history, and Tasmania’s capital city really does have it all. Here are some interesting things to do at Mt Wellington

Stroll the winding cobblestoned streets past old sandstone warehouses, explore galleries, markets and even a theatre along the way as you uncover the charm of this quaint and historic waterfront neighbourhood central to life in Hobart.

From eclectic markets, vintage stores and one-of-a-kind boutiques, you won’t walk away from Hobart empty-handed. Explore the city’s hidden laneways and market stalls for unique souvenirs that reflect the city’s history, culture and style.

Day 3 – Hobart to Port Arthur Day Trip (Possible Mt Wellington today instead of yesterday)

Visit World Heritage-listed sites and hear spine-tingling stories of crime and punishment from Tasmania’s convict past. From Port Arthur to the Cascades Female Factory, learn about Australia’s early history in ways that will stay with you forever.

Day 4 – Hobart to Ross to Wineglass Bay (Possible winery on the way)

Head to the centre of town to experience one of the strangest intersections in all of Australia. It’s called Temptation, Recreation, Salvation and Damnation. On Temptation corner stood the Man O’ Ross Hotel. Recreation is represented by Town Hall. On Salvation’s corner stands a Catholic Church and Damnation’s is a former jail (now a private residence).

The former Ross Female Factory makes for an interesting visit. Ross was built with convict labour, but most of the labour was carried out by men. The female factory is where female convicts worked for aristocrats as makers. And, of course, they were not compensated.

The Ross Bridge is the third oldest in Australia. It’s incredibly intricate and beautiful and is definitely worth a visit. Walk up close to see 186 different carvings made by the same number of convict masons. The men who built the bridge did such a good job that they were granted their freedom.

Day 5 – Scamander to Launceston with cheese and wine tasting.

The Bay of Fires is a bay on the north-eastern coast of Tasmania in Australia, extending from Binalong Bay to Eddystone Point. The bay was given its name in 1773 by Captain Tobias Furneaux in Adventure, who saw the fires of Aboriginal people on the beaches.

In the remote North East of Tasmania the farmers of Pyengana have been creating some of Australia’s finest artisan farmhouse cheese from rich creamy milk for over 130 years. Today at Pyengana Dairy, we are the custodian of the traditional recipe, unique to the Pyengana valley, for handcrafting this beautiful cheese. Pyengana Dairy Cheddar is adored by chefs and cheese judges, winning an abundance of awards across Australia. Our cheeses are available in restaurants, specialty food retailers, our Farmgate Café and online to people all around Australia so that you can enjoy the experience of Australia’s heritage farmhouse cheese on your next cheese platter.

Pyengana to Scottsdale stop for lunch. Scottsdale consists of a web of streets around two major avenues, King Street (Tasman Highway) and George Street/Tasman Highway or “Ringarooma Road” (Bridport Road). The main shopping area is located around King Street and Victoria Street.

Day 6 – Launceston to Beaconsfield Gold Mines

Beaconsfield is a former gold mining town near the Tamar River, in the north-east of Tasmania, Australia.

Beaconsfield was a former gold mining town on the western banks of the Tamar River, but it was not always small. The town’s incredibly deep gold mines made Beaconsfield the third largest town in all of Tasmania at one point. The gold mined from Beaconsfield played a key role in Tasmania’s growing economy and helped shape the island state into what it is today. Now the major attraction of its mining days is the Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre.

Beaconsfield gold mine — site of 2006 underground collapse — set to reopen

Tasmania’s Beaconsfield gold mine, the site of a deadly underground collapse and miraculous rescue 14 years ago, will return to operations under a new owner.
